Børge Mogensen Spanish Chair, 1967

Iconic early vintage Spanish chair by Børge Mogensen for Fredericia Stolefabrik, Denmark designed in 1958. Solid oak frame with cognac saddle leather all in very good original vintage condition with no damage or repairs. Normal traces of use with beautiful aged leather and wood. Signed and dated (October 1967 / 10 67) with manufacturer label.

 

Fantastic, simple but well thought out design with a strong appearance. The frame has very nice proportions and the chair has in combination with the saddle leather upholstery a robust and very unique appearance. Mogensen was inspired by the chairs he saw during a trip to Spain and gave it his own typical Danish design style by simplifying the shape, choosing the right materials and adding craftsmanship. This example has a beautiful patina visible on the leather seat and honey-coloured wooden frame and emphasises the rustic character.
